New year? Meh!

This December has been a strange one for me, I haven't given a toss about Christmas or new year, just a focus on my lad turning 16 and passing his CBT to get legal on UK roads with his Peugeot XPS 50cc trail bike.

We had a major storm passing through the SW of England on the morning of his test and I had to ride the 6 miles getting his bike there for him. Amber warning from the Met office, 60/70 mph winds, it was wretched, scary, dangerous, horrible, and I genuinely thought I was gonna get blown over many times in the journey!
9AM when I got to the site, the storm had passed and was blasting Eastern parts of the UK. The Sun came out and blue skies followed for my lad to prove he could ride his bike.
4PM he rang me to say he'd passed and I was one of the happiest guys alive.

One thing that annoyed me was that he took the test on his own manual gearbox/clutch motorbike while others were riding automatic gearbox scooters. In the UK if you take a car test in an automatic then you can only drive automatics afterwards. I think it should be the same for the bike CBT test. What he did, with all the uphill starts working the clutch was far more impressive than everyone else on automatic twist-n-go scooters - it's a shame that the test does not reflect that on the certificate.
Whatever, the most important thing of the year happened for me, my lad became legal on his 'mans' bike, and I'm proud as ****.

I've actually got many options of a night out tonight, from a dance party among thousands of people until 7AM to more reserved house parties and/or local bars with friends. I'm not though, I only care about buying myself a bike before March so me and my lad can go trailing and camping together.
Tonight could cost loads in wasted money, 50 at least on MDMA, 50 drinks, 20 entry fee...then taxi's, kebabs, and all the rest!
Nah, that's all going into my motorbike fund instead Smile Happy new year though everyone, however you may be celebrating Wink

Happy New Year, man. Hope whatever you opt to do is a good time Smile
Hey, I'm proud of your boy too; he did good work. I'm pretty sure that licenses here don't differentiate between manual and automatic transmissions... at least they don't for cars/trucks. I should look into what it is with bikes, it never occurred to me that it might differ. Gonna put my name in on a ticket to try and win a 2014 Harley Street Glide... $40/ticket, but it's for a hospital fund, so I don't mind giving the money away (I almost never win anything, I don't gamble Wink ).

Congrats on your lad becoming road legal. Fantastic he could do so well with a manual.
Good to stay in on this night but for me, I'm in Cabo as I have been for several years - singing for supper (so to speak). Eve of the Eve party was a blast and kickoff for tonight.

Cheers guys, hope you win the Harley Ankh, and hope you rock Cabo Stand!
I'm well chilled at home with Molly my cat and on the route planner looking for a 'round the island of Britain' adventure to chase with my lad when it gets warmer Smile
My biggest celebration was him getting legal on the roads...tonight is just a Tuesday for me! Smile

Same here. I was actually sleeping when the clock went over. Happy New Year to you and thanks for sharing all the upbeat stuff with your son with us. You should think about writing a book about it. Cool
