A house not a huge distance away from me, with a nuclear bunker underneath, has just come on the market...
The story is that the guy built it himself after serving in the now disbanded Royal Observer Corps of the UK. This was a uniformed service administered by the Royal Air Force to watch and report any nuclear attacks during the Cold War. The 1500+ manned bunkers around the UK were abandoned in the early 90's and here's an example of one I visited recently at Winkleigh, Devon, in my Unusual Places blog category.
I can see the chap's intentions, and understand completely. If I had a spare £350,000 I'd probably chase this property and ignore others with a sea view and perhaps more land. What does make me wonder though is that he felt the threat was so severe that he invested so much in protecting his family from a perceived threat of attack. Respect to him, that was some investment for something that didn't happen after all.
