Absolute ego based macho sillyness but an amazing event each year near me where men prove their balls by carrying flaming barrels of tar through the town on their shoulders! Never done it myself, only watched, but respect to all those who do, and get injured each year in the attempt.
This vid shows what was nearly cancelled this year due to "health & safety" rules and liability insurance price hikes...
This story explains the recent news...
Devon tar barrels event will be staged on bonfire night
I saw an interview from a guy injured at a previous event and he said although he'd been contacted by injury lawyers, he wouldn't take any legal action against the organisers because inside he knew it wasn't their fault - he chose to do it. I liked that view, and I wish we all took a bit more personal responsibility for our lives when it seems so many people are always looking for someone else to take that responsibility...and be liable under law as a result.
This old tradition is only one example of the many "fun" things we used to do when we were allowed to take risks just for fun. Gloucestershire's annual cheese rolling cancelled due to health and safety fears was not so lucky.
Here's a film of last years crazy race down a hill after a lump of cheese
*edit* Doh! This was meant to be in the new "possibly interesting" blog catagory I'd started, and I can't move it now so I guess I'll just have to be more careful in future.
