Goodbye Facebook!

Left facebook today, spent far too much time reading what people had for lunch or other rubbish, and i've gone back to the "old school" world of just phoning/emailing/or even better actually getting out and calling friends instead... friends who actually mean more than a number in a "friends" list!
This was my last note/post...

Folks, i'm sorry but i'm locking myself away in a wholesome box for a while, no smoking, no under the influence of anything, no unhealthy eating, no wasted time n stuff, no facebook/digital world addiction, or any of the crap that means nothing to me anymore apart from stopping me focus on the things that are important to me...i'm just gonna be a good dad for a while, eating healthy, training/excercising hard to get fit, focussing on the real world and stuff that actually means deep things to me.

I'm on a mission in my head and unfortunately distractions like "so and so crazy party" event invites happening next week etc don't help coz i'm weak willed and cant help myself if i know something's going on as i wanna be there! i'm runnin away from it all and not doing the checking facebook thing anymore until i've changed my life for the better!! me crazy but hey...i dont care!

Was gonna just delete my account but didnt wanna be rude or let anyone think i've blanked them or whatever, but I do need to get a grip on where i'm going in the real world so keeping my head only in the real world is the easiest way to do it. I check my email most days obviously, so if anyone has anything you wanna share just personally with me then "*********" is the place to do it, or a text, or even better just an old school phone call!

Dont waste your time or effort clicking "like" or "comment" after reading this coz i'm logging off after i click "publish", just letting u all know the score that i'm running back to the real day-to-day world (or emails which are really like old school letters) ...maybe its just too many app's...too many distractions, whatever...or too many things that stop me looking at the physical real things that are really important in life! lol Wink ya'all but laterz 4 now Smile

Good for you! I recently got an IPhone and have found myself posting to Facebook more often. I've always criticized other people posting nonsense out there and in the past couple of weeks found myself doing just that! I've stopped posting random comments and only posting something that I feel my friends and family on that site would enjoy learning about me or my life.

I've also tried to clean up my life. I found that triathlons give me a goal and a challenge to work towards. it also pushes me to spend more time outside. Even though I go to the gym to get my swim workouts in, I'm running and biking outside more than ever. Good luck with your new approach to life.

Ah! Thanks socceraggie! I downloaded the British Army fitness thing and am following their training plan so I can pass all their tests in the times that they have to be done (mile and half run in 9 minutes 30 sec's, 60 push-ups in 2 min's etc etc) I don't actually want to join the army but it's a focus/goal in my head to reach their standard so I know I could if I wanted to! Really getting into it now although I need to shave a whole minute off the run! Laughing so much more time to do it all now I'm not a facebook slave anymore, and it's nice to actually see friends and say "so what've you been up to?" without already knowing from reading it online!

Good luck with your mission as well, Triathalon, Man thats hardcore!!

I'm not familiar with the British army requirements, but I had a college roommate who was doing a similar thing when he was preparing to enter the US navy. He trained to exceed their tests and it gave him a concrete goal to shoot for. Sounds like you are doing a good job with the training if you are only a minute from the running goal. I know the pushups would be a challenge for me. I don't think I've done 60 pushups in a row since high school.

Have you heard of the P90x workout program. I haven't tried it but my father-in-law has been doing it for a few weeks and really likes it. You can usually find used materials on craigslist.

Good luck!

I completely deleted my facebook account 3 weeks ago, ignoring their guilt ridden messages that "so and so" will miss me etc!
Only the people in my mobile's phonebook and my email contacts are really the only folk I'm bothered with so I'm sticking with them. Yes, it's got good and bad points, but I'm enjoying just concentrating on old school email, and things that interest me on forums etc. far as excercise, hmm, the running stopped at the start of summer this year and changed to sea kayaking. This is set to continue through winter with any luck, as I'm already pricing up some nice paddle jackets and neoprene gloves...and haven't been looking at running trainers for a while Laughing

I think facebook can be effective if you use it to share worthwhile information with your friends. If you have 1000 friends, then you will waste lots of time reading junk. So rather than just bailing, you can be more selective about who you get updates from.

Mobile devices make it easy to share stuff when you have downtime. But it is up to you to set the quality of the message.

Now twitter does seem like a waste of time.

Lol, I agree about Twitter, tried it and then thought...why?!

Have gone past the 2 week "change your mind" period now though so Fbook is no more for me.
Will see if I get withdrawal symptoms and go back with my tail between my legs requesting friends again Laughing
