Sword Art Online Review (First Season,First Half)

Well, it's been some time, I have been busy with college stuff, so I didn't have much time to watch
anime or to think about writing a review, but now I have some free time Cool .

I recently finished both seasons of SAO or Sword Art Online. Here you have it's MAL page and
here you can watch it for free (legally!). It's going to be a two part review because each part has many things to talk about. Also, here is the

As a bit of background, SAO is an anime which is very famous (or infamous) so many people had seen it.
Because of this audience, there are two distinct sides, one who praises it and one who hates
it. As you can imagine, both sides hate each other.

Let's talk now about the show itself. SAO is based on a series of light novel and the argument consist on
people getting trapped into a videogame from which they can not disconnect. The story follows Kirito,
the main character on his quest to escape this dement game and return to real life.
For them to escape, they need to beat the 100 levels that the map has, and at the end of it there is a floor boss.

The premise looks promising and that part of the anime carries out well. The protagonist levels up,
meets friends, girlfriend and finally beats the game. Pretty simple argument but effective. However,
they cut some of the most important parts on boss fights and it doesn't feel like a Shonen, it lacks
"epicness", it feels like an Romance/Slice of Life, which is not a bad thing, but it was a bit of a disappointment.

Another part I didn't like much is the final boss battle, it feels rushed and forced, it has a nice plot
twist before but that's all. However, as a whole it's a pretty good piece of entertainment and I like to
recommend people to watch just the first part or arc of the first season, and then stop. I will talk
about the other parts in another post.

I tried watching the show by I can't bring myself to finish the series. I always find myself discontinuing after a few episodes. I am not sure whether the show lacks of x-factor or maybe it is not my kind of anime to watch. Anyway thanks for the review. Keep it coming.

I've been meaning to get around to SAO, but just haven't yet. Sounds like it can probably stay on the "I'll get to it... eventually" list Razz
