My journey with Ubuntu part 1 in Anime with 0 comments on Thu May 18, 2017 12:52 am
First of all, I have to say I am not an expert user in linux, but i consider myself to have enough knowledge to do most of the stuff. Since the last year I had a disc with a non functioning installation of Linux Mint. Why was it broken, you may ask? Well, It was because i tried to install the grub over the windows bootloader, efectively breaking both. I managed to repair windows' one, but after that I didn't have enogh energy to continue with Linux.

So early this week I decided it was time to clean under the bed, so I decided to install Ubuntu and leave it working. How wrong was I. Installing Ubuntu is stupidly easy, so I decided to install the propietary drivers of NVIDIA so I could use CUDA programming.

This is when I knew it was not going to be as easy as I thought. I tried to use the Software and Updates which can be located under System configuration. After that, in aditional drivers it listed some NVIDIA drivers, but after clicking in one and applying changes, it didn't work. And I began to wonder why. I started the program as super user using:
Code:
sudo software-properties-gtk

I tried again and in the terminal you can see what is actually happening. It seems that some weird dependency couldn't be fullfilled. I moved heaven and earth trying to fix it, whereas without any luck. I also tried installing the driver on my own, but weird errors keep happening, sometimes related to some thing called nouveau. After some thinking, I realized that during the installation I marked the option for installing external drivers and it was then when it installed nouveau, the open driver for NVIDIA. I tried to remove this package, without any luck, so I decided to reinstall Ubuntu without marking this option.

It worked like a breeze. After the install, I selected NVIDIA 340 and it applied correctly, after that I applied the driver I wanted,375. I found that way to work the best.

As a final note, if you follow my instruction, dont forget to run:
Code:
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

if you want to have audio and video decoders.

Sword Art Online Review (Rest of the series) in Anime with 0 comments on Thu Mar 16, 2017 12:19 am
Link to the last post

It's been a while since the first part, and I hope you are ready for more.
I will now talk a bit about the second half of the first season and all the second season. why, you may
ask. It's because it all follows the same themes and fail to achieve the good things in the first half.

Let's start a brief summary. The story follows Kirito and the other characters after they escape and
wake up from the game. However Asuna (Kirito's girlfriend) doesn't wake up and for some
circumstances he ends up in another VR game, this time not trapped but in the quest to rescue Asuna.
He plays the game, meets a girl who falls in love with him, she ended up being his sister, bla bla bla and
Kirito ends up saving Asuna. The rest of the series can be matched with this pattern.

The series removed one of the good things that make SAO an enjoyable anime, the real threat of dead.
Every situation in the series after that seems forced and unnatural, trying to stretch the show and that it not finishes.
Because of that, the relationship between Asuna and Kirito goes backwards and at the
beginning of the second season he presents her only as a friend.

They could make a good anime finishing in the first part, but they chose the money.
Sword Art Online Review (First Season,First Half) in Anime with 2 comments on Fri Mar 10, 2017 12:06 am
Well, it's been some time, I have been busy with college stuff, so I didn't have much time to watch
anime or to think about writing a review, but now I have some free time Cool .

I recently finished both seasons of SAO or Sword Art Online. Here you have it's MAL page and
here you can watch it for free (legally!). It's going to be a two part review because each part has many things to talk about. Also, here is the
trailer:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ohYYtxfDCg

As a bit of background, SAO is an anime which is very famous (or infamous) so many people had seen it.
Because of this audience, there are two distinct sides, one who praises it and one who hates
it. As you can imagine, both sides hate each other.

Let's talk now about the show itself. SAO is based on a series of light novel and the argument consist on
people getting trapped into a videogame from which they can not disconnect. The story follows Kirito,
the main character on his quest to escape this dement game and return to real life.
For them to escape, they need to beat the 100 levels that the map has, and at the end of it there is a floor boss.

The premise looks promising and that part of the anime carries out well. The protagonist levels up,
meets friends, girlfriend and finally beats the game. Pretty simple argument but effective. However,
they cut some of the most important parts on boss fights and it doesn't feel like a Shonen, it lacks
"epicness", it feels like an Romance/Slice of Life, which is not a bad thing, but it was a bit of a disappointment.

Another part I didn't like much is the final boss battle, it feels rushed and forced, it has a nice plot
twist before but that's all. However, as a whole it's a pretty good piece of entertainment and I like to
recommend people to watch just the first part or arc of the first season, and then stop. I will talk
about the other parts in another post.
Shelter in Anime with 0 comments on Sun Feb 12, 2017 9:11 pm
I watched the musical video Shelter and I thought it was time to write a small opinion. It's a 6 min video so I recommend everyone to watch it and then read my opinion if you feel like it.

First of all I have to say I'm pretty biased because I like both the underlying story and the music, so I may not be a good critic. The music it's pretty good as I've said before, and well complemented by the video. We must not forget it's a musical video in spite of everything.

The story is rather emotional but in the short span of time that takes to watch the video you just can't but like the main character and her father, and I would love to watch what happens before and after the events of the story. However, maybe the thing that people like about the video is that it's just a 6 min short film, so no further explanations or following series and shows may be the right thing to expect.

The animation and video quality is impressing, there is a lot of work invested in creating this beautiful images. From the main character to the scenery is all very detailed and I can't find anything that should be done other way.

TL;DR Watch it, it's only 6 min of time.
