Frihost: How I Came Here and Why I Still Use It

Well, this is my first post after my first post which was an introduction post in my blog. A user commented that I would never post after it. I guess Iím doing it now. Today, I reached 500 posts in the forums as well. Thatís a reason to celebrate, right?

How I started

My journey in Frihost is a long one. Back in the day, when I didnít have money at all and I didnít have the choice to put my money online to spend it, I used to search for free hosts. A lot of free hosting sites popped up back in the days. But none of them lasted for that long. I remember scouring those free host listing and review sites to find a free PHP/MySQL host with reasonable specs like space and bandwidth. I found a few of those, but most came with ads or forum posting requirements.

Now, I am not a big fan of placing mandatory ads on my websites. One of the reason I make sites is so that I can make some money by placing some ads of my own. So, Frihost and a couple of post to host websites were the idle choice for me. I chose another free hosting service at first because they gave us a free .com.ru domain. But there it was really hard to meet the post point requirements. So, I switched to Frihost.

I remember signing up for Frihost and then getting excited to start my own forum using a top level .com domain name. The forum I started back then was moderately popular with thousands of members registered and a few hundred active. Back then, I didnít know about Google analytics, so I donít have the exact site stats. But then people started losing their interest in forums and so did I. We all moved to social networks to spend our online time.

My old account in Frihost is inactive now and I registered this new username so that I can start a new gaming website. I thought spreading sites over multiple IPs was good for Google rankings. I hosted it for a while but I lost interest in maintaining a website that didnít attract a fair amount of visitors. So, now Iím hosting my other site which has around 20K+ visitors a month. After starting it, I didnít expect it to grow to that level but I am glad that it did.

Why I stayed

I also have a paid shared hosting server where I host around 15 domains (adding a few of my friends). I could very easily move the domain I have hosted in Frihost to my paid one but I kind of like it here. I was a forum posting junkie back in the day. I remember having 14K posts in a forum that I joined and around 10K posts in my own forum.

Now those forums are not active but I do like the idea of discussing with total strangers at times. So, this is my place. Frihost is where I come to open up random topics and post my views. And with my posts, I receive some points. So, I am making use of those points and staying hosted in Frihost as well.

Final Words

Frihost is the longest lasting free hosting service that I know about. A lot of those came and went back in the day. This one is still alive and active. I think that Bondings the person who started this site is not active anymore but the service still remains active. I really am happy to host one of my moderately popular website over here. Letís hope for an ever-lasting Frihost.

Great post playfungames. I'm basically the same. Have hosting all over, but Frihost is my "home". I do use my space here however. Server 1 has excellent hosting - best since I joined up in 2008. But mostly my involvement here is because it feels like home. If I don't "touch" home at least once a day or other day it feels as though I've forgotten to do something. Razz

Where do you make your most money these days with your Websites? I notice you said you're no longer doing Forums, so what are the alternatives that are making money for you?

Great post. I have been here for 10+ years and do use the hosting but also wish that that Bondings would/could spend more time here.

I haven't used the hosting in years,I still come back though to check from time to time, not as much as I used to,as can be seen by my "Points: -270.94"

I still hope Bondings makes a reappearance at some point and overhauls and updates the forums, but I can't see it,its been too long now since he posted or changed anything.

Having said that,I can still see frihost still here in 10 years time, with the same few people still popping on and posting occasionally, the rest of the internet will have moved on but frihsot will still be here like some museum piece. Wink

I generate most of my income from freelancing--writing content for other people. Not so great at the moment.

Me too. The website could certainly use a facelift.

True that. First website = first love (kind of). I still maintain my first domain but with a different type of content.
