Where do I post this: Directory Top 11 issue

I do not know where to post this so. I will post it here and hope that someone will point me in the right direction.

In the Top 11 on the Directory page there does not seem to be a working link. Is this just me or a temporary thing? Is it known about? Will it be resolved? I am just curious because if it is on an official Frihost page I would think it would be nice if the links work and send the person's web browser to the corresponding website. If this post is in bad taste please tell me and I will get it removed or edited as quickly as possible, however, I feel that letting people know about an issue could help in getting it resolved.

It is a known issue, most of the links in the directory don't work anymore,it just needs a clean up.

That is good to know. Is there anyone planning a good clean-up? Or is it just something that will sit and not get fixed for eons? I just wanted to know if it was known and if anything was going to be done about it. Since I do not use said list it does not really bother me, but I am sure there are some or could be some new users of frihost that would use the list, if it was functional , of course.

It has been like that for some time,i am talking years,it is on Bondings to do list, but it could be another few years before it gets done. Smile

Wow. Is there any way someone else could help him out with stuff he needs to do? Any other position, whatever? I just think that forcing one person to do so much may not be the greatest idea for the community. Of course, Bondings should hold ultimate power, just a little help from others every now and then would not hurt would it?

He has been offered help lots of times but he likes to do things himself.

Personally i would remove the directory, while it is a good idea in principal, unless it is maintained it gives the rest of the site a neglected look.

I would agree that it gives the site a neglected look, which is why I think it should be remedied. However, if Bondings wants to leave it as it is it is his to do so with. Removing the directory would be one option or even putting a notice at the top of the page that the webpage will be updated sometime but in the meantime may/will not be cooperative with its users. All hail Bondings!

It's definitely a known issue. There are actually a lot of websites inside the Directory (other than the top 11) that no longer exist and should be removed.

I think the problem was that removing sites from the directory is time consuming. Or at least that is sort of the idea that I remember, but I could be wrong, it's been forever since I've seen Bondings comment on the directory.

But yes, the top sites that are listed on the home page should most definitely be updated to current existing websites. This would make for an excellent competition (which we haven't had in a while either).

I'm sure it will get updated eventually, but nobody knows for sure when. Sad

I have the same understanding Ghostrider. Bondings has made lots of special coding to the first version of phpBB, to the extent that it cannot be upgraded, also any changes require going into phpBB and work on the coding. So it's not just a simple case of go in and delete/update the list, it's hard work.

As previously mentioned, plenty of helping hands have been offered, from Mods as well as members publicly, but nothing has really happened. If you Google it you will find quite a number of threads about this topic in the Suggestions Forum.

It is sad, to me, that it is a ton of work to get fixing. I would think that somehow one could get it working in a couple of hours. However, as I understand it now this is not the case and since this site is Bondings baby it is he who holds the ultimate power and there is reason enough to hold that power tightly. I just do not like the idea of this community getting to be known as a neglected, though used, forum. Perhaps someday this page will get changed, I just hope Frihost does not falter before then. Long Live Frihost!
