As of today, only four teams have passed their first round assignments to go into the second roundof the playoffs. Boston, the first team to doso, dominated the Knicks 4-0. Then came OKC (4-1against Denver), Chicago (4-1 over Indiana), and Miami (4-1 over Philadelphia). So now the Heat and the Celtics who are bracketed together will be playing against each other will be resting until the second round officially begins. OKC and the Bulls will be waiting for their next round opponents.
The first round has been characterized by low seeded teams upsetting top contender teams. This is especially the case with the Spurs, Lakers, Mavericks, and the Magic. The Memphis Grizzlies almost swiped the series from the Spurs today if not for the heroics of Spur-rookie Neal. Right now, the Grizzlies lead the Spurs 3-2. The Western second seeded Lakers have been getting nightmares from the resurgent Chris Paul. If not for the inspired and inspiring play of Kobe Bryant in theirGame 5, who knows where the two-time champion will be now. For the moment, the Lakers lead the series 3-2, looking to close out the series in Game6 at the Hornets' homecourt. On the other hand, the Mavericks, favorites to win in their series have been struggling against the Trailblazers. They lead 3-2, but the Blazers look set to even it up. Finally, the Hawks have been surprising in their series against the Orlando Magic. They lead the Florida franchise 3-2.
Chicago will be facing either Orlando or Atlanta, while OKC is waiting for either the Spurs or the Grizzlies. For the moment, we wait with bated breaths for the results of LA-NOLA and DAL-POR in their respective Game 6.
