Changes in Current NBA Standings

The Bulls lost to the 76ers and the Pacers win over the Celtics today. While the Bulls continue to be No. 1 seed in the East, they are now currently tied with the Lakers for 2nd overall. With their loss, the Celtics are now tied with the Miami Heat for 2nd place in the East. With the Celtics loss, the Mavericks move ahead of them in the overall standings. In the meantime, the Spurs lost to the Trailblazers. Duncan, Ginobili, Parker, and McDyess were out due to injuries. The Spurs are still ahead of the pack with a lead of 3 games over both the Bulls and the Lakers. We now have the following standings for the top 5 spots in the league:

  1. Spurs, 57-17 (.770)
  2. Bulls/Lakers, 53-20 (.726)
  3. Mavericks 52-21 (.712)
  4. Celtics/Miami, 51-22 (.699)
  5. OKC, 48-24 (.667)

When the Lakers go against the Mavericks on Thursday (Friday here), they will have the chance to overtake the Bulls while cementing their hold on No. 2 in the West and perhaps even a game closer to the Spurs.
