The price of free beer often higher than the beer's worth to the drinker.

Do you mean like alcohol-related injuries and hangover? But that's true for non-free beer too. Maybe I don't understand what you mean. Please explain. Smile

What you describe is definitely a potential price to pay for beer drinkers in general. In my case, what I was referring to is that one never really gets beer (or lunch) for free; you usually pay for the beer either with your own time or energy.

For example, free beer may be used to entice one to help someone to move from one city apartment to another. Is a six-pack of Bud Light really worth lifting 100-pound furniture and dozens of boxes up and down several flights of stairs?

In my case, I was bored to tears through two hours of sales presentations at a software vendor event before "cocktail hour" arrived. Even then, the best beer from the open bar was one for which I would never voluntarily pay. I can't really say that the free beer was worth my time in this case.

Ok. If you help a friend to move you can't really say no without a good reason. So if he gives you beer, that's just a bonus and it's free. I don't drink beer so I don't care if it's free or not but I get your point.
