OK, a few weeks ago, I was involved in changing the domain name for exchange 2007, so that the mailboxes for each user is email@example.com instead of firstname.lastname@example.org.
How did I do this?
very simple actually - using few steps , BUT, note that I didnt change the domain name, I just created an Alias and set that as the default name - I think its a nice feature in exchange 2007.
Here are the steps :-
1. - In the Exchange Management Console, Under Organization Configuration, IN Hub Transport, click on the [Accepted Domains] tab. Create the domain you want (make sure it is not used elsewhere), and make sure it is an "Authoritative Domain". And Set it as Default.
2. - In the [Email Policies] tab, edit the policy, and make the new domain as "Set as reply" as default.
This will ensure that when recipients receive email from this sender, he will get the required id to send to.
Hope this helps anyone out there.
