Start over my Blog

I have to start my blog again because frihost moderator point to me that I was writing in Spanish when English is allowed only in blogs, I recognize my mistake and will not happen again

10 blog comments below

This sucks, but the rules are there and as much as I do not mind them being in Spanish it surely makes a difference to some and it does not allow the same audience to read the blog posts, as if they were all in the same language. I am sure there is a point behind it as I understand, potentially, where the policy comes from. However, it does suck that the posts are gone. Perhaps you could translate your old posts into English? That way the posts are still there, just in a different language.

I am not a moderator and I do not claim to know all, just potentially capable of seeing where they are coming from. If the blogs were in several different languages it would be cumbersome to look through them all, or read them. Hope this setback on your blog will not set you back horribly.

Strange that a Spanish Language Forum is allowed with Mods and all, but they're not allowed to have their blogs in Spanish. Doesn't make sense to me at all. If there had been no Spanish Moderators that would have been different, but the Spanish language forum has been around for ages.

Any way, one good thing is I get to read your blogs now Mazito. I'm due for visiting Ecuador in two weeks and can't speak a single word Spanish, well I lied, I can say "si". And "gracias" that is thank you isn't it, oh yes and "par favore" must be please. That's the sum total of my vocabulary.

Wish someone could start a blog to teach us a few words of Spanish. Very Happy

It might be due to that the main language of this website is english. Currently there are a few subforums for other languages, which might one day be a good idea to create a system like that for the blogs of other languages. However, readability is usually very hard-pressed in a forum and that is not usually the case when random posts in the list are in a different language. Perhaps it does need a change, but personally I do not mind it either way.

There aren't enough active language moderators to support all of the language forums to post in the blogs. When you create your blog, right next to the "create your frihost blog" link, there is text that clearly reads "english only."

The main reason I wouldn't want to allow it, is because if the blogs ever got active enough with enough users that speak anything but English, they could potentially overrun the English bloggers, making it difficult to find the English postings.

There is of course talk of having separate blogging pages for separate languages, so we aren't mixing things up. However nothing is set in stone of course. This too also depends on other language moderators and if we can even support such a thing.

@ Ghostrider: My point exactly. The site currently is not set-up or staffed in such a way that it would permit it. And of course the English only blogs section.

Perhaps, if languages do get their own language blogs then it will not happen. Moreso, this could also becoming exceedingly cumbersome for those that write in multiple languages. Either way, I support Frihost's decision.

Foreign language blog posts that aren't covered by the current language forums should of course not be allowed. However, if there is a shortage of Spanish moderators to moderate Spanish blog posts, I'd say the Spanish language forum would be in trouble as well. The requirement for having Spanish blog posts in English questions the existence of Frihost's Spanish language forum as the criteria for not having Spanish blog posts are the same as not having posts in Spanish. Lack of available moderators to moderate Spanish posts/blogs. Sort of the same thing isn't it?

I would think so, but you never know it does depend on where priorities lay. If the forum gets moderated before the blogs than of course the forum could be okay. There just would not be enough mods to go around for the forum and the blogs.

Moderation of the spanish blog posts mixed in with the English posts wasn't my main concern really.

My main concern was the quality of the content in the blog posts. I'm sure many English users would not want to see a bunch of foreign languages mixed in with the English blog posts.

Thoguh moderation is still sort of a concern, I don't know how well the Spanish forums are being moderated because I don't speak Spanish. Though I do know Vanilla speaks Spanish and had said a few months ago she could do some moderating in there. I don't see very many Spanish reports anymore, so I could assume it's better but I have no idea. That is not my area.
