Hello everyone! Today I want to talk a little about power electronics, something I learned in the first half of this year and found it very useful.
Power Electronics is a technology used in processing power in order to obtain higher efficiency (lower losses in energy conversion processes) and quality (clean in terms of environmental impact energy). The methods employed in Power Electronics based on the use of semiconductor devices operated in a regime switching to make the control of energy flow and conversion of waveforms of voltages and currents between sources and loads.
Various other techniques and various devices have been used in the past to accomplish these functions. For example, we can mention: vacuum tubes, magnetic amplifiers, rotary converters, etc.. However, such devices had disadvantages such as low efficiency and poor reliability, and require frequent maintenance.
The components of power electronics are typically used only in the switching (on/off), and are generally optimized for this type of operation. Most of them should not be used in linear operation.
