Digital circuits can provide a lot of functionality in a small space. Circuits that are used repeatedly can be "integrated" into a single "chip" and mass produced at very low cost, enabling the creation of disposable items, such as calculators, digital watches and musical birthday cards.
Continuous Advancement in Technology
When designing a digital system, we know that it is virtually certain to be a faster, cheaper or better technology within a few years. Designers more wary caution these expectations of technological advancement in the initial design of the system, preventing obsolescence of the system and providing added value to customers. For example, computers can come with boards (motherboards) to allow their update (upgrade) with faster processors and more memory capacity, which does not exist at the date of sale.
