Tipping the waiter in the restaurant? Wait

Whenever I went to a restaurant, it was usual routine to leave a small tip to the waiter - irrespective of quality of service.

Once I went to a restaurant with my brother. We had something to eat and drink. One small kid working there came and removed
the plates and cleaned the table. I was about to leave the usual tip to waiter when my brother said "Did you observe that poor
kid working as cleaner? He is paid much less than the waiter and does lot of hard work for his age. Why don't you tip him
instead of waiter?"

How true! This thought had never occurred to me even though I had been seeing these cleaners clean the table every time
I visit restaurants.

I still leave tip to waiter. However, I do give a small tip to cleaner too. In case I am short of change, I tip the cleaner
and not the waiter.

Next time when you are at restaurant, please give a small tip to the cleaner. They deserve it more and really appreciate it.

In the restaurants I've been, it's up to the waiter to clean the table.

In most of the big restaurants, it is the waiter who cleans the table. But in India (where I am from) except for few big restaurants, they hire poor people (most of them kids from poor family) for very low wages to clean the table. If the waiter has to do the same job, they have to shell out more money.

Cheap labor is a big problem in india and people below poverty line seldom overcome their poverty due to this.
