Tipping the waiter in the restaurant? Wait in Society with 2 comments on Thu May 22, 2008 10:40 am
Whenever I went to a restaurant, it was usual routine to leave a small tip to the waiter - irrespective of quality of service.

Once I went to a restaurant with my brother. We had something to eat and drink. One small kid working there came and removed
the plates and cleaned the table. I was about to leave the usual tip to waiter when my brother said "Did you observe that poor
kid working as cleaner? He is paid much less than the waiter and does lot of hard work for his age. Why don't you tip him
instead of waiter?"

How true! This thought had never occurred to me even though I had been seeing these cleaners clean the table every time
I visit restaurants.

I still leave tip to waiter. However, I do give a small tip to cleaner too. In case I am short of change, I tip the cleaner
and not the waiter.

Next time when you are at restaurant, please give a small tip to the cleaner. They deserve it more and really appreciate it.

yours sincerely in English Grammar with 0 comments on Tue Oct 09, 2007 1:07 pm
Normally, people write "your's sincerely", which is wrong. The apostrophe should not be there.

The correct use of an apostrophe is to denote a possessive with a name or place, like "it is clinton's car" or "Newyork's skyline is beautiful".

WRONG: your's sincerely
CORRECT: yours sincerely
I purchased a toothbrush in English Grammar with 2 comments on Thu Sep 27, 2007 1:24 pm
Purchased is normally used with things that are big or cost more money, like "purchased a house/purchased a car". For small items, use "bought" instead.

WRONG: I purchased a toothbrush
CORRECT: I bought a toothbrush
XP: Defragmentation in Tech with 0 comments on Thu Sep 27, 2007 1:07 pm
Keeping the disk defragmented will cause system to run faster. But it is a pain to remember and run defrag UI every now and then. Here is the solution.

XP ships with a command line utility defrag.exe. You can specify the drive you want to run it on as a command line parameter. Ex: defrag c:

You can schedule it to run every night automatically. Or you can create a short cut on your desktop/quick launch. Then you can click the shortcut before you go for a coffee break.
I am doing good in English Grammar with 0 comments on Mon Sep 17, 2007 4:42 pm
Though "I am doing good" is used widely, grammatically it is wrong. It should be replaced with "I am doing well".

Good is not a verb, but is an adjective. Hence it doesn't fit in "I am doing good".

WRONG: I am doing good
CORRECT: I am doing well
