Finally diving into learning Blender!

Blender=Button Hell

From the Blender_3D:_Noob_to_Pro/Beginner_Tutorials wiki:

"Blender is not the kind of software you can launch into and grope about until you find your way. It's not like exploring an unfamiliar city."

"It's more like flying a jet airplane."

"If you hop into the pilot's seat without knowing the fundamentals, you'll be lucky to ever get off the ground, and it'd take a miracle for you to reach your destination safely."

My primary interest in using Blender is for mechanical and architectural design and I have found an online guru to help me figure out this seemingly gawdawful complex program.

Robert Burke is a fellow who works on tangible engineering and construction projects, he gets his hands dirty so to speak instead of spending all his time on a computer. The computer is a mean to an end, a design tool for his projects. He has some excellent, very detailed video and PDF tutorials of what he does. I'm currently going through one called "Blender precision modelling" which details the creation of a precision ball bearing in Blender. Here's my progress so far:

Yes, Blender is a pain to learn although there are some decent tutorials online.

More pain now that it has been changing its interface.
lol Bluedoll must be working on some 3D modelling to reply on this old post.

Oh, is this post old? Laughing

I've always enjoyed 3d. It is interesting though blender is very complicated I think. Glad someone else thinks that way too. I think open source projects are awesome though and never was able to get maya to try so when I downloaded it felt really good about having the opportunity to actually do something like that. Not sure if I am willing to devote the time needed but interesting??? - - - absolutely!!
