This blog is an experiment to see if I'm going to use it or not. I suppose this description is temporary too...

Wordpress xmlrpc.php problems in Internet with 0 comments on Tue Aug 12, 2008 1:18 pm
OK, so I recently downloaded the blog editor Ecto, which basically allows you to write posts when you're not online, in a rich text editor, then post them to your blog without going through the standard write post pages and the like.

I would have been fine if the xmlrpc.php file was working correctly. The first clue I had that it was playing up was when Ecto wouldn't connect properly to my blogs. Tonight I decided to find what the issue was. I found a post at a website where a person was having exactly the same problem, and he said that his host found the problem was with the mod_security module in the web host.

That's when I came over to Frihost. A quick search for xmlrpc turned up http://www.frihost.com/forums/vt-45925.html, in which Bondings himself gives the solution. Basically the webhost for some reason doesn't like the file being named xmlrpc.php. If it is renamed to something else, everything works fine!

If you're having this problem that's the solution.
Soon to have Satellite Broadband in Internet with 0 comments on Mon Aug 11, 2008 12:23 pm
Because I really needed a faster, always on connection for my new job, my parents are going to let me get satellite broadband, which I can now pay for regularly. The base plan for 500MB data + 500MB of bonus data (that can be used from 11pm to 9am), and 512/256kps speeds, costs $30 a month, so it isn't as good as normal broadband.

But because we live in a rural area we can't get normal broadband Sad.
New Job! in Personal with 1 comments on Mon Aug 11, 2008 12:19 pm
Anyway, continuing on from the computer post, now for the job post.

At the end of July I was randomly browsing some Australian job sites looking for samples of work that I could do. I found one job up in Townsville (about a 1000 kilometres north from Yeppoon) for a junior web designer, and I had all the skills they required.

I thought, well I might as well shoot off a quick email because I might just get it or something Very Happy. About a week later the guy rang me up and we had a chat about the job involved and things like that. At the end of the conversation he said that I'd got the job! It pays $12 an hour for now, but they're going to review that wage at the end of my first month's work.

Basically what I have to do at the moment is create new websites, copying over pages from current ones. If you have any questions just ask Smile.
New Computer! in Internet with 0 comments on Mon Aug 11, 2008 12:15 pm
I've been really lucky this month and last. For a start, I bought a new computer off eBay, which is heaps better than my old eMac.

It is another eMac, but instead of 800Mhz its 1.42GHZ, instead of 384Mb of RAM it has 512MB, instead of a 40GB harddrive it has a 160GB harddrive, it has a dvd-burning optical drive instead of only cd-burning, and its installed with Mac OS 10.3.9 (which I'm going to upgrade to Leopard) instead of Mac OS 10.2.8.
BBpress forums in Internet with 0 comments on Wed Jul 09, 2008 6:22 am
Well just a few days ago I decided to add a forum to my developing Yeppoon information blog and site (http://briterwebdesign.com/blog/). The forum can be seen at http://briterwebdesign.com/forum/. Anyway bbpress is a lightweight piece of forum software made by the guys at Automattic, who also own and operate Wordpress. Because of this BBpress can integrate with Wordpress, sharing databases and user data.

It comes with 1 main theme design, which I decided to use as a base for my own design. Mainly I added the big header image and a nice blue background, but I also made some other minor design changes. One of the things I don't like about the default theme is that it uses a lot of position:absolutes, which can be quite a pain.

So anyway, thats my experience so far with bbpress. One thing I find quite strange is that there seems to be a distinct lack of themes for bbpress, which I find strange as they are just as easy as Wordpress themes to make and modify.
