The following is the tried and over posted letter to the shareholders (or potential shareholders) of Facebook. I can tell you that I admire the company for taking a stand on their "corporate" culture. It stands to reason that if you are a publicly traded company that you will try and preserve the ways that "brought you here".

I wish that the company that I work for would do the same...at least the systems team. As part of the systems team, if we embraced this type of idea where we can constantly "tweak" something for improvement, then we will never be satisfied or complacent with an idea and say that it good enough. Also it is not enough for one person to have this way of life, the entire team needs this mentality.
Believe it or not, my simple attempt at learning web python is just another way of embracing this culture to see if we can do better. As a Windows/SQL Server shop, this is not something that we do. We go into design meetings and dream up big ideas and write design document that never go anywhere!
Our path should be to get the idea in our head, find the critical points and just DO IT. There should be a discipline along the way but if we take small steps and constantly check along the way we can create great systems that people would actually use.
Just my 2cents for now.
