Free Python hosting?! When I heard about Google App Engine I had to give it a try. But I was a bit disappointed with it. While its quite a nice service, especially since its free. It has a lot of caveats. For instance you cannot access the filesystem, so right there you basically cannot use a large percentage of python libraries (without modficiations).
The only database available is their own Google Data Store and access is through the APIs they provide you.
Still there are a lot of projects underway trying to engineer existing libraries and resources to use the Google Data Store instead of a filesystem.
One of them in particular I am following and trying to see whats come of it is - MoinMoin GSOC 2009. This is to allow the MoinMoin wiki to be installed on GAE (Google App Engine).
But its an interesting project on the whole, and while it does not fit my needs for this project, I will definetly be playing around with it to see what it can do.
