Thinking about starting a vlog.

I guess it is just an idea I had. I want to start a youtube vlog. One of the biggest reasons that I am afraid to do it though is because recently my brother did a youtube "show" , and is now the laughing stock of the teen community where I live. I am afraid that the same thing will happen to me. I really want to do it though for a few reasons. One I feel like I have a lot to say that I keep in, because I feel like I can't really express my self properly through text. I also want to get better in video editing, and the last it seems like a lot of fun!

Also if you know of any free movie editors (for mac) that I should get to make my videos look better. I am going to have to start with just using my webcam, but if things go well maybe I'll save up for a good camera to use. So tell me if you think I should, or if you would be interested in it.

Just thought of an idea. Maybe I'll make the first, and put it on youtube as private and share it here with my frihosters, and you can tell me if I should make it public or scrap it.

Also I need a name for it. :/

I was thinking mhorsekiller because my first name is Michael, and my last is Horstketter. I use to have an art teacher that would always call me Horsekiller. I don't know just an idea maybe I just come up with a few and I'll post them and you can tell me if you like them.

Okay so I just went through some tests using my camera and mic and they seem to work alright. Problem is I sound like I am a stereotypical gay guy guess I never noticed before that it was how I talked. Guess that will be something for me to clarify in one of my first videos.

On the topic I need Ideas for what to do for my first video!!!

Good luck!

I have plans to start up an educational vlog; it's gonna be a lot of work, but it'll be rewarding. Yours will be a little more rewarding for potentially less work Smile. if you have anonymity concerns, you could absolutely just not film your face; use images, animations or digital masking software...

Well I got final cut express 4 so I can deffiniatly do more in the terms of editing. The problem is that my web cam is pretty grainy because I live in the basement so it is pretty dim. So I am either going to need to rearrange, or borrow my brothers camera until I can figue out something better. I am using the default webcam on a 2012 macbook pro 13 inch non retina. So if anyone knows of a better webcam for cheap let me know!

Lighting really is key.
Spend a little money to get some (2?) good, powerful lights, then use a white shirt or something as a diffuser; set them up on either side of you, and even your webcam will look good.

These were two gear reviews I shot on my MacBook Pro, with no editing, shot in a basement with only natural light; they're far from great quality (video), but aren't too bad, I think. With some actual lights the MacBook camera will do just fine.

You might want to prepare what you're going to say a bit better than I did Wink
