Late King Birendra,

MESSAGE OF HIS MAJESTY KING BIRENDRA BIR

BIKRAM SHAH DEV TO THE NATION BEFORE

PEPARTURE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE SIXTH

SUMMIT CONFERENCE OF NON-ALLIGNED

NATIONS HELD IN HAVANA.

Beloved countrymen:

At the friendly invitation of Cuban president, His Excellency Mr. Fidel Castro, we along with the queen are leaving for

Havana today to participate in the sixth summit conference of the Non-aligned nations. On our way to Havana and back, we will also pay unofficial visits to some friendly countries.

The importance we attach to the principle of non-alignment is known to all. Globally too, nations that were aligned to different blocks have gradually been accepting this concept. The increase, today in number of non-aligned countries speaks for it itself the momentum the momentum the movement is gaining daily in the world scene. Since the inception of this movement, Nepal has always been taking an active part in the summit Conferences of the Non-aligned Nations in the belief that it can become an instrument of peace for the region and the world. The Conference, from the standpoint of our national interests has, moreover, provided for us an opportunity to maintain contacts at the highest level with numerous countries of the world. For these reasons, we have decided to lead the Nepal delegation to the forthcoming Sixth Summit Conference of the Non-aligned Nations to be held Havana soon. With the good –will of our people, we earnestly hope that we will succeed in our mission.

We have constituted a Council of Royal Representatives under the Chairmanship of our brother, His royal Highness Prince Gyanendra Bir Bikram shah, to discharge duties on our behalf during absence. The council of ministers will carry out the day-to-day administration. We are confident that all our countrymen will, as always, contribute to the maintenance of peace for the good of Nepal and the Nepalese.

May Lord Pashupatinath bless us all!

Jai Nepal
