Eagle has landed

So finally arrived at my destination in St Peters Port, Guernsey, UK last night. Was a long journey. First British Airways from Abu Dhabi to London Heathrow Terminal 5. That was quite challenging. It was a lovely modern Plane 777 with great quality entertainment equipment and movies, but we were delayed for an hour in Abu Dhabi. Then when we arrived at Heathrow an hour late, we couldn't find a connecting tube and had to be bussed one slow load per bus for a very long distance to the terminal, adding on a further 45 minutes. Then when we got to customs it was a night mare when one saw it at first. Like one of those movie scenes from Ellis Island in NY at immigration. Like a cattle station of people. At least the lines moved, and I finally exited, but missed my bus to Gatwick. I then got a later one.

Spent a few hours at Gatwick Airport, and impulsively booked four hours in one of those cubicle type hotels that are in the terminal - Yohotel. Scarcely enough space for luggage, but everything works great. Feels like a tiny version of a boat cubicle. In a lower bunk. Got two hours sleep and then my bad luck they had a fire drill. Felt as though I was being attacked as didn't know where I was when I woke up. Then spent some time on excellent WiFi.

Weather was very bad and almost though the flight won't make it to Guernsey, but eventually weather cleared and our flight was cleared for taking off. Reached my destination late last night. Not too crazy about the hotel, but at least a place to rest. And WiFi works fine. Cool

The air is amazing here. FRESH. Only now realize how bad the quality of air in the Middle East is. Very nippy here, slightly windy. Glad I'm here though. Definitely a good place for a little holiday.

lol truespeed. Lovely image!

Yesterday was overcast and windy with a few drops now and then in Guernsey - can't call it rain, more like little specs infrequently. Today woke up to sunshine, with clouds threatening on the horizon. Slept like a log last night. VERY quiet at night time, even with staying at a hotel near a main road. Was totally lights out. Also been walking plenty in genuinely fresh air. The breeze is unbelievable for cleaning the air. Definitely healthy place to be. Cool

This post is courtesy of the internet of Guernsey Library. Service is in excellent condition. No Internet Café to be found anywhere as obviously a dying breed. I did bring my laptop though, so will be using that most of the time. Plenty of WiFi everywhere including in the library.

This is a really old fashioned library with lots of quiet and serious librarians. Am enjoying Guernsey.

I am glad to hear that you finally reached Guernsey! Looking for your retirement villa in the fresh air?

Nope! Just making sure my savings are OK. Had to change banks. Can't afford a Villa, most of all not in Guernsey. I like Guernsey very much but a bit chilly for a long term stay and very expensive. I'll probably go for a cheap sunny place when the time is right. Still have to figure out where that's going to be. Any recommendations will be warmly appreciated. Smile

Thanks Andro. I took a number of photos. Will download them when I get back home and post some of them here. Still a couple of days left. Can't believe how quickly the time is flying.

you are quiet on this trip. I guess just relaxing and not posting photos here. I hope you are enjoying yourself.

It was a Blitz visit Stand. I returned on Sunday evening into a chaotic arrival scene which took hours to extricate from and only got home in early hours of morning. Had to report to work the next day and have been living an upside down existence since then. Thankfully we're at the start of the weekend.

I did take some photos. Hopefully by weekend I'll unveil them, but don't think there's anything really exiting in them. The best thing for me about Guernsey was the great air. Got to be a healthy environment from that point of view. I was a bit lazy though and took it easy with plenty of walks. Was tempted to go on a boat ride to one of the nearby islands but didn't want to cram too much in. Also saved some UK pound. Very expensive to travel in the UK.
