Bondings Enigma - Quo Vadis?

Probably not a good idea to ponder on all of this too much, as nothing is going to change in the end. It's just difficult for me to understand that Bondings hasn't made an appearance at Frihost in such a very long time. Yet, is still committed to providing free hosting to all of us.

Almost like a paradox to me. Is this a case of procrastination, it would be too much of a life altering event to mothball Frihost, so it is much easier just to roll it and all of the Frihost domains over every year? I don't think Bondings is making much on Frihost. Definitely not enough to offset the cost of the servers, as the servers are with a not so shabby Datacenter. The Datacenter is one of the best, if not the best we've been at since Frihost started. Ironically at a time when Frihost is on a very steep declining curve instead of a gentle declining curve. Maybe Bondings wants to make sure very little can go wrong and if something does go wrong, the Datacenter is very well set up for picking up on infections and exploits. They warn him. Or so it appears anyway, as when something serious goes wrong, he does fix it on the double. But only really REALLY serious stuff. With very little communication from him. I must say I do really miss that communication very much. I do miss Bondings. But maybe Bondings is gone?

I do realize that even if he should come back, that Frihost may take some doing to save it. The Forums have gone completely stale, and particularly in the IT and web development sections the topics have been out of date for years now. The Forums definitely beg for a major overhaul. Which the staff under leadership of Bikerman would be capable of doing. However, without at least some presence of Bondings, this may be hard to achieve on the enthusiasm level. Got to drum up enthusiasm first, and yes, even if we're capable, without a token presence of our mighty leader, that would be an almost impossible task to achieve.

That almost makes me a little sad. I haven't been around here that long. I used to go through the forums but I tend not to contribute on many because I haven't a clue what to say. There are a lot of intelligent people out there and maybe I'm a little self conscious of my own level of knowledge. I might take a quick look around but if they're as stale as you say it could be tough trying to jump on anything currently there. If you started something new... not sure what you'd even talk about...

The forums are quieter than ever, and have been in slow decline for years, but it doesn't have to be a permanent decline,it just needs Bondings to hand over some decision making and powers to those still around who want to make the forums work again.

The forums need streamlining, dead forums need to be merged and simplified.

New hosting accounts need to be created for new users. (I don;t know if this is currently happening or not)

I guess even without any input from Bondings,or any changes, the forum with its million plus posts will always have a presence and search traffic coming its way,but forums need to be active living things, not some internet archive of information,so something needs to be done.

ps: I have reopened my "Bondings next to post contest" (started in Feb 2014,still waiting for a post)

I think the forums will pick back up (somewhat), if Bondings could take some time or (as truespeed stated) turn over some control to 'staff'.

As far as I know Staff through Bikerman and tidruG have complete control over the Forum now. Except I haven't seen Bikerman in a very long while. Who knows, maybe mention of his name will get his nose itching and he'll soon be back and ready to assume command. Razz

@truespeed. Thanks for reopening the contest thread. Cool
