Good luck with your plans.
Best thing I ever did was going self employed, ok so there's no holiday/sick pay, or guarantee of cash at the end of the month, chasing people for payments etc, but I've never felt more alive and free than I do right now.
No egocentric self-important management types getting a kick out of enforcing stupid rules, no verbal warnings for not shaving for a day, no pathetic 'team-building' workshops, no ass kissing horrible customers (unless the price of the job is worth a bit of false respect), no begging the blessing of someone for a few extra minutes at lunch time for something important, no annual appraisals, no two week notice requests for a day off, no more daily repetitive and structured life events determined by someone else's timing needs....[/rant]
I'm not sure about the lazy thing though, cash in my wallet tends to determine how much I work, I only did 4 days over the last fortnight, by choice as I wasn't in the mood to be completely honest (lazy), but I'm probably doing 7 days in a row this week up to Sunday. If I work longer days I can reduce that, but the job needs finishing by Monday so I'll revise things as the week goes on.
I love being self employed and I think I would really really really struggle if I ever had to go back to being a regimented little drone-like worker bee again. I would do it if I had to but I've traded successfully through a deep UK recession so I'm hopeful that feigning respect to prick managers is a thing of the past for me now.
Whatever you end up doing though I wish you the best with it
So on Sunday will be flying to South Africa again. Mostly a family affair and checking out options for when I'm not recontracted in the UAE after October. Employment wise I don't think I'd stand a chance though. Unless I can find a way to employ myself. I'm sure there must be many ways of working on something. Just by being more resourceful on the expenditure and the income side. Like perhaps looking after people's houses and have free accommodation. Probably going to require a completely different mindset. Actually quite shocking how lazy one gets when one is employed on a regular monthly basis. Maybe this would be good for me in a way. Get me out of my comfort zone.

Thanks Stand. And thanks Watersoul, that is pretty motivating and exactly where I would like to be. Maybe a a little place by the ocean for lots of fresh air and exercise out in the fresh air.

Have a good trip Dean! Looking forward to the pictures! Don't make me chase after you to post them!! As for employment, here's hoping you get another contract (not sure if you like what you're currently doing so that could be a death sentence)?
