Just hate it when I'm procrastinating, like I have been for the last number of days. Not in work, but in personal stuff like cleaning house, and doing chores. It first started with legitimate excuses, like really bad weather. We had a weekend of wind storms of the kind that would make it silly to go outdoors and senseless to do any cleaning. Then last weekend it was raining all weekend as well as three days into the work week. Pretty silly to negotiate traffic that cannot cope with bad weather without plenty of accidents and traffic jams bringing everything to a stop. Then a weekend of having the flu and recovering from it. And so maybe all of those inactive weekends created a habit of being inactive over the weekend and spending too much time in front of the computer. I need to get out and exercise again. Car needs to be tuned up and oil changed. Maintenance time every where. AC filters need to be cleaned. Bills need to be paid. And I haven't been away for some nice recreation and fun either. Camera has been idle. Darn!

OK. How to get out of this inertia. Maybe if I made a long list of things to do, and did them one little byte at a time. Instead of the "go for all of the chores" in one huge exhausting gigantic byte. Then the little things will start to gather their own momentum.

Nothing like the immediate present either. So am putting the proverbial size 10 boot under Dean ....

Don't think you need butt kicking Dean, just a little routine. Very Happy

In my house Saturday is officially "cleaning day". It's the day my mom doesn't work and I like to clean the house so she can rest and do things for herself (go to the beauty parlor, get her nails done etc). This way when she gets home the house will be all clean and pretty - just like her. Smile

Also when I need inspiration I go on this tumblr and tis amazing how much I feel inspired to clean my house. They have this method called 20/10 (20 minutes working, 10 minutes resting) which is helping me make wonders in my place. I'm doing minor cleanings during the week too, so I won't spent my whole Saturday cleaning. Don't forget to check the tips!

Thanks for the tips Vanilla. You're right about the routine. My day used to be Friday, since it's like a Sunday over here. Then Saturday is the day for breaking out and doing fun stuff. Any way this is probably going to sound slightly crazy but it is 5:30 a.m. here (Sunday is our first day of the work week here), and have just put in an hour with doing the basic things. Hopefully by the time I go to work at 7:00 a.m. things will be in a better shape than it was when I wrote my blog post. Test however is to get into the routine next Friday again, and the Friday after that. Will make a start on exercise tomorrow morning. Which means I must go to bed earlier tonight. Darn, self-discipline is interfering with my life! Twisted Evil

PS: That bathroom in your tumblr link is GROSS! Must be the smallest bathroom I've ever seen. Quite amazing there were no bugs, must be a cockroach heaven.

Hey Dean,
When you get done cleaning the house, come clean mine. I have been in the procrastinating also.

Oh goodie ..... glad I'm not alone in this ... Very Happy

Must say I fared well with sorting out most of the cleaning before work yesterday. Next Friday will be the real test for making it a weekly thing. I've been thinking about a strategy, which is to visualize myself doing it, the timing, the whole routine, then when it gets to Friday, just see whether it will go into automatic. I'll do it first thing very early in the morning just so that there will be zero chance for torpedoing it with procrastination maneuvers. Weather willing, will then tackle the AC filter cleaning as well.

In the meanwhile there are the other things too like bills that have to be paid, medical screening for renewal of visa, car maintenance, etc etc. Tackled two "bites" successfully yesterday, and have two further "bites" earmarked for in between and after work today.

What I really need is motivation and recognition. Although I might not do the opposite by actually thinking about it very much; I will leave my cleaning sometimes until I see it reach the point where it is unacceptable. It is not a recommended approach but I do it now and then.

What I've found out is when my world is cleaner, I am happier and even feel more organized. I recognise it as a accomplishment and that will motivate me to keep doing it. I try to make myself see an advantage.

I was kind of like Bluedoll when I was a kid. My room would get so ridiculously messy and disorganized and I would wait until that point to do a super, all day clean-up. On top of reorganizing my bookcase, and my desk, and my closet I would also move my entire room around. Moving my room around was kind of tough because I had a small room and I had the door on one wall on one side of the room and the close on the same end of the room on the other corner.

I'm a little different now. My clothes go in a hamper and the hamper never gets super full. I usually neaten up my bed before I leave. I try and aim to do my dishes either as I make them or everyday, but sometimes I slack off and it's a few days later and I still haven't done them. I do like to vacuum though. I'm always amazed at the hair and dust that is picked up when the carpets look fine!

I still go in spurts but I know if I keep things up it is a lot less work. I've seen myself hand wash dishes after using each and every piece. Other times they hang around in the sink for waiting for visitors. lol

What I do know for sure is neatness or un-neatness will affect my overall mood.

Well Friday's here. And I've got a growing halo over my head. Got up at 4:00 a.m. Did early morning exercises and had a run. Cleaned house. And now am ready to tackle mundane stuff like grocery shopping. Then I have the rest of the day free for other things I've been procrastinating over.
