I don't procrastinate at work, maybe on small things now and then, but I think the reason I've survived as long as I have in my job is that I'm always ahead of the game. So I'm not just up to date but looking ahead for what else may follow.

BUT, in my personal life I do procrastinate, and it can be like a mill stone around my neck. Ever since I moved to the Middle East and my current employment, I find that I put my personal life on hold. Everything to do with chores usually come second after work. And sometimes even when I get time to do my chores, I seem to be programmed for procrastination.

I noticed it particularly over the weekend, when I had a very long list of chores to do after my trip to South Africa. However, finally on Saturday started to tick some of them off, and boy, what a wonderful relief to actually get ahead. I really can't understand why I am like this. Strictly speaking it should be just the other way round. I should come first, and work second, as work's supposed to be only a means to an end. Also, looks as though my employer has finally decided to get rid of all of the expats in my Department, I'm part of a dying breed here, so will have to find something alternative to do after October of next year. I guess now more than ever is the time I should be fighting procrastination in my personal life.

A serious procrastination is my money affairs. I parked my savings in an off shore account in a Bank on one of Channel Islands, at a time when it did earn some interest. Not only is it not earning interest, but the UK Government has been responsible for decreasing the value of the pound Sterling particularly after the 2008 crisis. I haven't transferred any savings for the last two years due to currency concerns. Also, my salary is probably worth half to what it was when I first started here, due to an amazing inflation. There has to be a way to do it right, just have to find it. Darn!

I am a bad procrastinator especially during the cold/darker winter months as I just don't have the energy levels. Spring starts Wednesday!!! Though it will be it a very cold start at twenty degrees below normal temperature for that day..
Dean, I think most put work ahead of all else because it is the means to the end. TheGremlyn is just going to have to head over there and crack the whip! laugh
BTW: I can't think of any 'sound' financial decisions to make in this economy. Stocks, savings or Real Estate

too funny, L. Also probably more painful. Dean, you are in trouble now.

You work, you are allowed.

Thanks! I guess you're right. I should learn to relax. Agreed with Stand that in many cases it's because there may not be any energy available.

My present immediate procrastination is to get back to exercising again and sort out my sleeping. Just before I left on my holiday, I had both running on an evenly keel. Both give lots of energy. Right now my sleeping is totally upside down. Last night did not sleep at all. Passed out in front of the TV tonight and then after waking up almost at midnight, am wide awake doing the night owl thingie once again. So easy to slip into these habits as I think they are natural to me, just don't work with work however.

Got to get back into the routine you had before your trip.

Right. Am still struggling with it. And this morning I'm suffering from a sleep hangover. Someone woke me up when I was in a deep sleep. Feel completely drugged.

You really have to manage sleep to keep to work times. Sometimes you have to pull out the old pointer and put it on the top thing on the list and just do that one thing. Hope you get back on routine again. Imagine being jet lagged all the time?

Reminds me of programmers (network server admins') that sleep on couches in the hall until the job is done. What a life! Does not work well with all occupations though.

Good points Bluedoll. I've probably wrecked my efforts to get back on a good sleeping pattern this weekend (the weekend here in the UAE is Friday/Saturday). But, at least had a fantastic sleep from 2:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Didn't know where I was when I woke up, but it was great that I could wake up slowly. Challenge now is to go to bed again. One way to do it is to stay completely awake from now to tomorrow evening. And then go to bed at the right hour. Will see whether I can do it.

For the first time since my return from South Africa got back with my exercise program. Things are looking on the up and up. Now for sticking with it and making it a daily routine.
