Ecuador - Manta on Pacific Coast

As mentioned before, Manta and its surrounding areas down the Pacific Coast in the direction of Salinas was my favourite experience of my visit in Ecuador. Something about its energy, and of course the Pacific Ocean that did it for me. Here are some of the photos I took, and I did take many.

This photo was taken on one of my walks down the sea wall of Manta. It's a Club, but I wasn't allowed in due to tough security rules around the area. Manta has a very high crime rate, although not as high as in Guayaquil.

The photo below was taken in the shipping yard where plenty of fishing ships are being constructed. At least one country where there is not too much evidence of trawlers yet. The guide who took me there said that usually when the ship is ready, they throw an enormous party, party whole night long. Ecuadorians love to party, particularly on the West Coast, where every night can be a party night.

Note that that cart in front of the construction theme is actually a beer cart most of the way. Initially I thought they were ice cream carts, but nothing like that in this area of town.

This was taken on the day of my trip down the coast to Puerto Lopez. Puerto Lopez is an enormous fishing town, situated about two hours south of Manta. It is famous for whale tours as well. Regretfully the whale trip did not work out, but I at least managed to take a few photos. Here are two Black Vultures laying in wait for some tasty bits from the ocean.

Some Pelicans also waiting for some snacks from returning fisher boats.

Some delicacies that are being marketed on the main road of Puerto Lopez

Back in Manta during my last day took these shots near the harbour

Took the photo of the black cat specially for Standready .... Smile It was stalking around the same rocks as where the Egrets and Pelicans were hanging out.

Returning fisher boats arriving at lunch time ....

Some snacks on the road

Some of the many bars not far from the Hotel I was staying at

Didn't know that. I've seen them in fancy plastic containers but could not recognize them on the crab. Go figure! Very Happy

I like the sequence of photos where there are two birds on the rocks, the one bird, then one bird again, and finally a black cat! Did he eat them or is he trying to hunt then?

The black cat was probably hunting for scraps of fish or parts of fish. Don't think he'd stand a chance with the pelicans or egrets. Maybe with their chicks if they are alone, but not the adults.

Amazing how this scene is repeated in Muscat, Oman. All the same players, except for the Pelican. Plenty of egrets and then cats among the rocks.
