I fell instantly in love with the Rideau Canal that meanders right through the center of Ottawa city. Totally had me in awe, and could not get enough of it. Hence quite a large percentage of my photos were of this canal.
The Canal connects the city of Ottawa on the Ottawa River to the city of Kingston. It is the oldest continuously operated canal system in North America (1832). The locks on the system open for navigation in mid-May and closes is mid-October.
These are some of the photos I took during the first day. Great for walks and bike rides.

I'm glad you did Stand. I'm not an engineer though but was completely taken by it. Spent lots of time over two days checking it all out. Lovely place for walks and bike rides with great views of the city.

Ottawa is a great city!! Since living in Canada I have found myself feeling mostly at home in Ottawa despite being closer to Toronto. I went to the Rideau Canal in winter once and actually got to skate on it. It was huge! I actually live in Peterborough Ontario.
