Environmentally Challenged or Case of Insomnia?

I'm going through a bad case of insomnia. When I can't sleep I never fight it. I just don't go to sleep, as for me it's a total waste of time to toss and turn. So as a result I've had two nights this week where I just did not go to bed. By afternoon, I'm almost comatose. Inclination is to want to sleep during the early evening but I usually fight that, as then I would wake up around midnight, and repeat the pattern. But tonight I completely passed out when I was sitting on the couch having dinner. And then when I did wake up at midnight, still in the same seated position, did not know where I was at all. Very Happy

Anyway, today at work we had a real interesting discussion when someone mentioned he could not sleep as well, and all of a sudden a number of others also mentioned they had not slept either, so all of us are now wondering whether this may be a case of being environmentally challenged. Probably over the weekend I need to research this subject. We have just gone through some inclement weather with major dust storms, followed by a short violent storm and cloud burst and then instead of it raining properly, got back to the dusty winds again. Wonder whether it is something in the air, or perhaps magnetic fields .... ? Need to check it out. Think

Well, I don't know if it is something in the air that keeps me up all night sometimes. Last night however, I did manage to get a few hours of sleep which was better than the zero sleep the night before. Like you, Dean, I fight to stay awake until a more appropriate sleep time. After dinner and with a full belly, it can be difficult so I go for a walk.

Well it looks like I got the adverse of your disease... I would sleep all day. Very Happy Yesterday for example (the night of monday - tuesday) I went to bed at 2:00 am and woke up at 2:00 pm feeling very tired and wanting to stay in bed. Smile I then did a quick nap at 4:00pm till 5:00 and went to bed at 11:00 (sleeping another ten hours). Razz

My trick is to think about things that will never happen. Last night for example I wondered what house I would be living in, ten years from now... Yet you can't think properly about it, you just have to let your brains work (like images flashing by of houses) and before i knew...

I do this all the time. Smile But the trick is to never think really hard, do not focus on one particular thing (like the color of my house Razz ) just let images pop up into your head.

Yet it is an interesting thought that the environment could be the cause of insomnia...

sleeping beautifully for over 18 years Razz

/conspiracy theory at work/

Do you and people at work live nearby? Maybe it's something in the food or water...

I can't sleep properly every other night for about three weeks now Neutral last night I was tossing and turning and trying to keep my eyes shut, but it feels like it's wide open even if it's not. In the end, I just heard the aircon turn off (which means it's already 5 am), unsure whether I already got some sleep or not, though i still fill very tired, It didn't feel like it was already 5 hours since I went to bed. When I heard my mom went down the stairs, I decided to lie down the opposite way(?) - I mean placing my head where my feet used to be and I slept a good 5 hours more. Smile

Of the nights that I had a hard time sleeping, I remember thinking "I might have a hard time going to sleep tonight" just before going to bed. I think maybe that had a psychological effect or something.
