Porn Post Attack - mOrpheuS to the rescue?

This morning around 10:00 a.m. plus or minus (Abu Dhabi Time) Frihost was hit by a Horrible Porn Post. Shocked When I discovered it, it must have been in the General Chat Forum for at least an hour or two or more hours. I was horrified. I immediately hit the report button, and I'm sure Adri, who had been posting at the same time must have done so as well. To me this was an awesome emergency that required instant 911 action. What to do? I knew Bondings would not be online, as that was a bit early for Belgium time. Ocalhoun would be sleeping, as it would probably have been 2:00 a.m. or so in the morning in South Dakota. I then thought of writing a PM to Bikerman, as for sure Bikerman has antennas that reach to several planets with regard to anything to do with Frihost. BUT, I forgot Frihost's stalwart Administrator mOrpheuS. As while I was frantically thinking up scenarios of PM'ing Moderators - agra ka dabra poof, and the pesky porn post was gone. I then realized mOrpheuS must have killed it, as he had made his appearance online.

What an amazing relief that was and real appreciation due to mOrpheuS, an unsung hero who is always in the background hammering and chiseling and now also killing porn posts.

But, the sad part of course is that that porn post must have survived in Frihost space for at least one to two hours if not more. I genuinely wish we could have a 911 button somewhere, or at least some of the trusted Frihosters have a 911 button to put a post like this into quarantine when there is no Moderator on line. Adri would have been the first to have noticed it, as both Adri and I post regularly in the General Chat Forum. If Adri had had the power to put this post in quarantine, it would have been immediately removed from public view.

And now I am also really puzzled. How on earth did a horrible porn post like that get past the Frihost filters. Hopefully this is not a sign of more to come? Would there be any way to tighten up the filters? Also, maybe I'm being a bit paranoid here, but I have a feeling that the person who targeted Frihost had a feeling for the general age group in Frihost, which is University age. It was not a random post, or was it?

Well done, Dean, for reporting the 'bad' post and a BIG thumbs up to mOrpheuS for quickly eliminating it.

Embarassed Thanks Standready. Guess anybody who had been posting at the time would have done the same. Adri would never have let something like this go unreported so I'm pretty sure he must have pressed that report button as fast as I had. With regard to mOrpheuS, I just took a calculated guess as his name appeared more or less at the same time when the offending post disappeared. It could have been Bondings too, I'm not 100% sure about that.

I didn't remove it. There is a topic with "sex" in the title in the spam can, though.

[self praise start] I hit the report button as well. [/self praise end]

But really, I was shocked to see such a long, ehm...descriptive post sneak in.

Kudos to mOrpheuS for quickly removing it! Smile

@saratdear. I was just as shocked. It was scary for me in fact, as I opened the pesky thread at work. You can just imagine how quickly I closed it! Was like a real hot potato. Anxious Maybe we are just lucky that we don't get these kind of posts regularly so that in the very rare event it does filter through, it threw me for a loop. As far as I can remember, this is the first one I encountered since when I first started to post at Frihost in May 2008, so that must be a good sign for Frihost.

Well, I would have clicked the Reportbutton for sure if I had seen that post but I only checked my posts using Egosearch that morning (I tend to check the posts where I already have contributed before checking other posts) and the Suggestionforum. Embarassed

I do report SPAM posts quite often. Smile

Question I live in Belgium too, not too far from Bondings actually. Eh? Also Bondings has his status on 'hidden' so you can't see him when he's online. Smile (You can do that by editing your profile Wink )

@deanhills - I opened the thread at home. Smile

Thankfully, I was able to close it quickly before my folks spotted it. Would have needed a lot of explaining - "It's a spam thread, really. I was going to hit this 'report' button here, nothing else!"
