Got myself an android phone -- finally!

I finally saved up enough for a Moto G second generation. A friend of mine has a friend who's coming to Kathmandu from India next week. So, we ordered a couple of Moto Gs for ourselves. I've watched several reviews online and it seems to be a really awesome phone that can compete with many flagship devices of other companies. I think Google's doing a really nice job making these great devices with well-built hardware and latest pure Android software available at such low prices. The Nexus tablets are another prime example of this. I will need to save up for some more months, but I hope to get the new Nexus tablet as soon as it is released.

Wow! Sounds like a great phone CG. I'm still to get an android myself. Hope you will show us what it looks like once you have it.

Also looking forward to see what the tablet is like.

That's pretty funny, I just moved from my old brick pay per minute plan (circa 2004) into the smart phone world with Republic wireless and the Moto X! Super happy so far, no data plan so it's only $10/month and has excellent reception!

The Moto G is a really good phone, probably the best value in the smartphone realm. I was especially blown away by how much faster it was in regular use than the more powerful Galaxy S4s and HTC Ones, simply because it has a clean Android installation (plus Kit Kat is a lot more fluid than Jellybean). Great build quality, too. It's extremely well thought out, and now that you can get it with an SD card slot, there really aren't any major compromises I can think of.

Best phone around that price range.
Is this your first android phone?

@deahhills: Sure, I'll post some pictures here once it gets to Kathmandu.
@Standready: Yup! Very Happy
@coolclay: The Moto X is a very nice device. I especially like the video stabilization, which is absent in the Moto G. But, of course, a Moto X costs way more than a Moto G.
@william: Yeah, it's a great device. I watched like a million reviews on Youtube before and after ordering it. Very Happy The only compromise I can think of is the 1 GB of RAM, which is really low. But it should be enough to get a smooth experience, albeit a bit insufficient for heavy multitasking.
@Cybersa: Yes. Smile

@Codegeek. What is the battery life like on the phone? How regularly do you need to charge its battery?
deanhills on Tue Oct 14, 2014 8:01 pm
@dean, these smartphones can use a lot of juice if you leave every feature on.
I've got a first generation xperia Z (which still kicks a** performance wise) and if keep my my Bluetooth ( used to connect to my car system), Wifi, 4G, GPS ( or location as they seem to be calling it nowadays) active and play a few games and make some calls, my battery will be depleted in less then 48 hours.

the days of having charging once a week ( like I used to do with my nokia 3310 ) are long over my old friend Wink
Marcuzzo on Tue Oct 14, 2014 11:16 pm
@dean, Unfortunately, the battery doesn't last very long, especially because I use my phone a lot. I need to charge it every night or else at some point the next day, the battery will get to less than 5%. So, the battery life is about 1 day with normal use and probably around 4 to 5 hours with continuous heavy use.

Wish they could come up with better batteries! Looks like a great phone however. They seemed to have discontinued the Moto G here in the UAE and are not into Moto X. Moto X comes at a heavy price however in comparison.
