Upgraded my internet

Today I upgraded my internet from the piece of shit ADSL connection that I was using to a better 1 Mbps connection. I did a quick speed test which seems pretty good (well it's a big upgrade for me at least). Plus, it doesn't die on me from time to time which is of course why I had to discontinue with the ADSL and go for cable in the first place. The only problem now is I have to put my router some place else, which gives me a terrible signal on my laptop. What are my options? I have a long LAN cable which I can use. What if I wanted to use Wifi, though? Is there any way to improve the signal strength?

You can use an Access Point. This little gadget can improve your signal strength between router and device you use. it works as an middle man to close the distance between router and computer. I don't know if you can use anything else.

Thank you for the suggestion. Yeah, I think I do need to boost the wifi signal a bit because it's very weak in my room. For my laptop, I had the LAN cable fixed and it's very fast. The router only takes around 0.5 ms to send data to the LAN cable, while using wifi I get pings of around 10 ms. Sometimes it goes as high as 2000 ms. Do you know what might cause fluctuations in the ping rate of the router when using wifi?

Could be a weak signal or it could be other em radiation interference.
wireless routers run on 2.4Ghz frequency so any bluetooth or similar kit might interfere....range is effectively 20m (or less with solid walls/metal structures between source and user).
How far are you from the router and what is between you?

It should be around 12 to 15 meters, I think. There are a couple of solid brick walls. It's actually one floor below me and to the right diagonally. So, I suppose I'd have to consider the ceiling as well.
