Writing vs Programming

I'm studying to be a software engineer, but I find myself being drawn a lot towards content-writing these days. For one thing, it's very easy. Moreover, it pays quite well. I'm not a particularly good writer or anything, but I've found that online content writing is more about quantity than quality. If one is able to simply string together a few coherent sentences, one can become a "content writer" in no time. This is what I feel to be its biggest turn off for me. Plus, mass-producing copy-pasted and severely paraphrased drivel does not strike me as something to be proud of. Though I've tried to avoid this in my work as far as possible, the very nature of online content writing prevents me from side-stepping this path altogether.

However, I haven't forgotten to sharpen my coding skills either. I've been devoting around 2 hours daily to programming. Once I'm able to get to a point where I have a stable income from web development or mobile app development, I plan to quit content writing completely. Until then, though, the mad typing continues. Very Happy

Do what you enjoy and are good at. Having knowledge of Coding and Content is like having a double degree in my opinion

I am again and again astonished how bad many things are documented these days. It doesn't help a lot to develop good code if it is not documented properly. In other words: writing and coding combined are a strong skill !
Writing well by the way is a bit like programming. For that reason "writing documentation" actually is often called "information development" (ID) where I work. I tried to find that term in wikipedia and bumped into "Information Design":
Information design is the practice of presenting information in a way that fosters efficient and effective understanding of it

I think that is the key: just creating a copy'n'paste collection of words is not writing. Putting it together in a way that others will really benefit from it and ( hopefully ) in addition actually enjoy reading it is an art.
