The sorry state of bookstores in Argentina

Today I went to two different major bookstores here in our country's capital, looking for two unrelated but important books:

Even in their translated versions (which suck so much there's no words to describe it), both were unavailable, and none of them was slated for re-stocking, which means that, in some 60% of the bookstores market here in Argentina, there's no way of getting them.

We're also unable to import books (for reals, there's some bullshit laws about buying books by the unit being importing and that not being possible anymore) or handling dollars (we cannot do that for any purpose other than travelling abroad) so I'm forced to download those books and pray the authors are satisfied being sent argentine pesos via paypal or something.

I wonder if there's room for entrepreneurship in this really shit situation

That is a cruddy situation to be in. I do not know what I would do if I could not buy the books I wanted or at least get them in. Perhaps you could find someone outside of Argentina and send them money to send you the book? I do not know what to say, but that sucks.

Oddest thing ever: I've just been noticed that my current job (it involves remote directing of small groups of people) might be considered a "services export" and I thus might need to pay additional taxes for such thing.

As a sidenote, I've been doing this for the last 8 years without it being considered as such.

I'm starting to lose my grasp of argentinian politics

In my area of the US, 2 large chain bookstores closed their stores leaving just a few very small shops left. At least I can purchase books online from several different sources. My local library has become my go to place to get books to read.

Too bad libraries here don't really have up-to-date technical books )= I'm starting to believe the only recourse we have is, like I said, downloading. Fortunately, it's not exactly illegal a thing over here.

I can't even get amazon to ship here!!! for some reason

That is sad, however at least you do have some available route to get the information that you want. Even if it is to download it.
