For me, on the other hand, this word has its downsides also. I once noted in a lecture about connotations that this word may also be perceived as xenophobia—fear of strangers, foreigners or aliens. Also, because of this “nationalism”, we take the trivial jokes or insults of other nations heavily and bash them back causing a bigger problem. And for me, the most annoying thing about this so called national pride is that we keep on bragging the achivements of other Filipinos overseas as if we were the ones to achieve that. Yes, all of us our proud of the recognition they gave to themselves and to our country. Obviously, we are stealing their own limelight from them. However, we must remember that it is them who made that feat not because of their nationality or race. Because of this, we keep on attracting unwanted and unpleasant attention from other nations.
