I am playing squash since 30+ years and yesterday has been the first time we tried a Squash Double match. I have seen this a few times here in our sports center but wasn't sure whether this is just for training and fun or a real discipline, and what the rules are.

It actually is a real squash discipline, see link above to Wikipedia or for instance this video.
In a German discussion thread I found something mentioned about the rules and tactics. Rules are similar to playing regular single squash, except that every team has service 2 times, one for each member. There are two tactics how to position the players: front-rear or left-right. We tried the first approach yesterday but this turned out to have some disadvantages, especially after playing a short cross ball for instance. Left-right seems to be the recommended tactic, something to try out next time.
I find it amazing that it took us 30 years before we suddenly decided to give this a try. Double Squash from my short experience as of now requires more thinking and less running. And of course much dicipline in the court when using the racket and moving to a new position. In that sense it is quiet challenging. Anyway: it had been fun !
