My wife and I have been hiking the Eifelsteig during our two+ weeks of vacation this autumn. It is a 314 kilometer hike, quiet ambitious, done in 15 days, thus more than 20 kilometers on eight of these days, and some altitude to manage - up to 700 m sometimes.
We started in Aachen on Saturday, September 12th, and reached Trier at the river Mosel on Sunday, September 27th.
Weather was quiet mixed these days, some rainy or very cloudy days, but we also got some nice sunny days and moments. We slept in a cloister two times and in a castle one time, and overall there have been many great moments to remember. This is the sort of vacation we really like.
My full set of photos is here on flickr.
Highlights have been Aachen of course with the incredible Cathedral,

the beautiful city of Monschau,

the "Three-Mills-Waterfall",

the trail along river Lieser,

and finally Trier, among many others.

You must be exhausted and very fit at the same time. Those photos are out of the world. Many thanks for sharing them with us Amagard! Cool

Thx, guys !
Not really exhausted, deanhills. It is amazing how you get used to these daily hikes and just living with what you have in your backpack. You daily routine and priorities change, but it gets easier than normal life when your schedule is full and you have to worry about all sorts of things: work, e-mails, commute, household, ... you name it.
At the morning sometimes parts of the body hurt a bit, but amazingly this goes away as soon as you start walking again. And it is getting better every day. Actually our body is designed to walk. Walking much solves a lot of problems you usually might have. For instance at night we slept like babies during those two weeks.
Some stages were really long and while we enjoy hiking at the end of the day we were happy when reaching the destination of the day.
I run 6 kilometers two times a week and play badminton and squash three times a week, thus I'd say I am in good shape.

Thanks Amagard. I'd say anyone who can play squash has to be fit by definition. Razz

I love that waterfall photo and the Cathedral is amazing! I have a thing for Cathedrals and I want to just go visit as many as I can. I also hope there was a choir singing somewhere in the building... that's maybe what I want most of all. The trail by the river looked neat.

I miss walking the trails in parks and in other places while we were geo caching. You went places you'd never think of and it had you moving. It was lovely. I hope you had a really great time hiking!
