Flowcharter 0.1 alpha

Last week in my drawer I discovered a very early version of Visio or ABC Flowcharter:

I probably got this in 1980 when I joined IBM. Boy, did we really draw flow charts on paper for software we wrote ? Actually we did during the programming classes I went through at the beginning.
For my diploma theses work I wrote in 1983 with Script on a mainframe computer I had to come up with some ASCII art to enrich my paper with flowcharts:

Thanks for the flashback.
Too bad programs are not flowcharted any more. If programs were, maybe they would not be so bloated.

Perhaps.
In the 80th and 90th last century the discipline of Software Engineering became quiet popular, the science to construct real good quality software.
Nowadays we live in the world of Agile, and the Agile Manifesto says:
Quote:
Working software over comprehensive documentation

In Google Trends you can see how the interest in "Software Engineering" is declining since 2005 while Agile is gaining more and more interest.

You'd think Agile produces good quality software ? I tend to disagree. In the agile project I am currently working I see rapid start of development activities in different teams without spending much time on coming up with an up-front design and not much effort to coordinate what different teams are producing.
Thus I more agree to what Kyle Cochran writes in his article "Why Agile is Fragile ":

Quote:
Agile can result in a quality deterioration. Rapid-fire development entails minimal documentation and an emphasis on speed over process and planning.

Agree.
Since computers have so much memory and hard drive space, so who cares about bloat. Why document when you just add?
I have worked with programs that had so much obsolete/useless code left active (not remarked out) and no explanations of what was going on that it took forever to get anything straightened out.
