Cyborgs - do they exist ?

A cyborg (short for "cybernetic organism") is a theoretical or fictional being with both organic and biomechatronic parts.
says Wikipedia about Cyborgs. While I agree to the second part of the definition I think the first piece is wrong: they are not theoretical or fictional beings anymore.

Famous examples from science fiction are The Terminator or Darth Vader from Star Wars.

Last month I received an extra edition of "bild der wissenschaft", a German science magazine, titled "Power for the Brain", mainly about neuroenhancements. While drugs have been used as neuroenhancers a lot meanwhile chips implanted also can be used to stimulate or slow down particular parts of the brain.

Enno Park is German's most popular cyborg. See article here ( sorry, only in German ). The measles took away is hearing capability, a chip implanted into his skull brought it back and actually improved it in a way that sometimes he can hear better than anyone else.

Neil Harbisson is another example. An antenna has been implanted into his skull re-enabling him seeing colours. But not only colour we all see, with this enhancement he can also see ultraviolet and infrared light.

Two examples of man-machine hybrids where technology enhancements not only gave back a capability lost, but improved those to a level a regular human being can not reach.

So, the answer to the inital question is: Yes, Cyborgs do exist !

I am amazed by the control some Veterans have over artificial limbs so a full blown cyborg is ever closer.

There are other examples. Prosthetic hands that are far stronger than any human hand are now possible. Even simple technology - such as 'blades' for legless runners - can allow performance greater than our 'standard kit'.
The real question is - would you choose to replace your organic 'bits' with a tech replacement parts ?
At the moment I don't know of any 'part' which I would choose to have replaced.....
