Messenger, a robotic space probe launched by NASA in 2004 reached Mercury in year 2011 after a few flybys and was the first spacecraft to orbit it for four years to explore it. On April 30th its mission ended because running out of fuel and Messenger has been sent to the surface of Mercury, impacting it with a speed of 4 kilometers per second and create another crater there with a diameter of 16 meters.
APOD published a photo of Mercury's surface on May 1st.
