Dropbox

When my sisters laptop broke down (just a software problem) a few days ago, she was afraid that she would lose all her school work and the whole tralala... Luckily for her, I fixed the software problem and she had all her documents back.

Nevertheless my sister was quite sad that she could lose everything so quickly... So I searched the internet for automatic syncing between my computer and hers. That's when I discovered Dropbox.

Dropbox is a program that you have to install on your computer (, laptop or iPhone) and every time you 'drop' your files into the Dropbox directory, it automatically uploads your files to their servers and syncs it with every other computer that uses your account.

So now my sister's happy and her documents save. Smile

Is it expensive? I had a laptop die on me a couple of months ago, but fortunately all my stuff was backed up on an external hard drive. Still, suppose we had a fire? It's nice to have your stuff backed up somewhere far, far away. Nice to be able to access stuff if you are traveling, too.

Well you get 2Gb of free space, if you need more you'll have to pay unfortunately. But actually 2Gb is a nice size if you just back-up your really really really important files like .doc, .xls and some photos or family videos,..

Like I said in my post, Dropbox does not only upload files to their servers, but if you have another computer/laptop/... you can install dropbox there and log in with your account and Dropbox will automatically download files you uploaded on your other computer. At the moment, I have 3 computers (2 desktops, 1 laptop) synced with each other.

Yes, that's true, you can access your files by logging in to dropbox.com (so no need to install dropbox on other computers when you need access).
