03E WHAT IS THE EFFECT OF THE BIBLE UPON THE LIFE?
The Bible deals with the experiences of humanity -- birth, love, marriage, parenthood, and death. It has to do with the deepest wound in human nature -- man's fall and the misery resulting. It shows the only way that man can be healed of that wound.
The Bible is not a book of one race, one age, or one nation. It has been cherished by men of all races and cultures and ages. It was written in the East, but it also appeals to men of the West. It enters the cottage of the plain man and the palace of the king. Children love its exciting stories, young people are inspired by its heroes; parents find in it wisdom to instruct their children; the sick, the lonely, and the aged find in it comfort and hope for a better life. The Bible strengthens in weakness, cheers in despondency, comforts in sorrow, guides in perplexity, soothes in weariness. It shows men and women how to live courageously, and how to die without fear.
The study of the Bible will strengthen the intellect as no other book can do. "The unfolding of thy words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple." Psalm 119:130. If the Bible is studied deeply, and its teachings are absorbed into the life, it will make a person strong to resist evil -- strong to develop into the fullness of a man, physically, mentally, and morally. It will restore a person to the image of God.
The Bible has great power. Hearts hardened against all emotion have been broken, softened, and filled with love by this book. Christian leaders have personally seen the Bible change a former bandit and opium smoker into a zealous preacher. They have seen the Bible change a liar and a cheat into an honest and upright teacher. They have seen this mysterious book snatch people from the brink of suicide and start them on a life with a goal. The Bible has made the proud humble, and the selfish generous. It has made enemies love each other. It has taken ruined men and women and made them new again.
God's Book, the Bible, can change your life too. You will be thrilled as you continue to study it through these blogs series.
