Busy busy

Well I've been keeping busy.

These two projects I have going are different compared to the Mac bar thing I did. With the Mac project I had to meet with people and I ended up buying things and installing and setting stuff up, configuring. These ones... I deal more with opinions and half the time people are super negative and other times they're supportive.

I try to be helpful when I can. I don't put people down. I'm always aware of how I might sound if I try to give advice or support, or ideas. Others just... Can't do that it seems. I almost wonder why they're like that. If they realize what they're actually doing or if they're stuck in their bubble.

Anyways. Our VP sent an email around for the Ontario Universities Computer Conference. He said volunteer. I figured it was a volunteer or be voluntold. So I looked at the possible jobs and I picked on and tried to express interest in that role. The next day another email came around confirming the voluntold bit.

After a bit it was confirmed that I would be in charge of photography and social media.

Of course I was already thinking about what I'd do and thinking about volunteers and what I'd need. I was looking at what others had in place from previous years and follow suit a little. By the time I had my planning session meeting I already knew what I was going to do. The hour long meeting the VP had planned for ended up being maybe 20 minutes.

Well. I've got my Twitter page and Facebook page. I've taken some preliminary photos. I'm waiting on an official logo that's been cleaned up a bit. I spent a bit of time following other universities and then looking a previous sponsors and I found them on Twitter. I'm not big on Twitter posts so I feel I will fumble there. I'm better with Facebook. I'm a little nervous because our VP is very hands off but I'm afraid I won't do it right. I won't say anything inappropriate but I'm still worried I'll post something that he wouldn't want to be made public.

I'm hoping the role i play will really help promote this event. If I get the information out there and reach my audience then more people will come, we will have more sponsors, maybe better speakers. I feel I'm advertising off campus and someone who is doing signage is primarily advertising on campus.

The event isn't until May so I'm super early. But my idea with social media was to document the whole process. Beginning to end. The conference doesn't just happen, it takes time and effort and lots of work. I want to capture that. I figure the sooner I start the sooner I can reach people and churn up interest. My VP did like that idea so he's letting me run with it. The downside of starting so early is I have no website to link back to and hardly any communications about the even. As it is I'm just rocking on my heels waiting to post the logo.

Anyways. I hope I do a super job!

P.S. If anyone has some ideas of a kind of disclaimer... I need to post it probably a few times to remind people who attend that event that they may be photographed and they basically can't complain and stuff. By attending the conference they agree to have their photo taken, formally or informally. Thoughts and ideas on what that would look like?

You seem to be well planned well in advance TG. Let me know if you need someone to comment or something on your Facebook and Twitter pages.

Sounds to me like you really have thought everything through extremely well for being 'voluntold'. Best of luck on the project.

Do you invite them through emails, fb, twitter ?
If yes, add a small notification at the end so that they wont be able to complain later. I hope that works for the basic part.
