The Old and The New

So, after years of coaxing my speakers along, trying to keep them alive, they finally died. I have a 4.1 speaker set from a ex back in the day (about 5 years ago or so) and maybe 2 or 3 years ago I started to have issues with the front right speaker that had the controls on it. The volume knob must have been getting loose or something because if it wasn't set perfectly then I wouldn't get any sound out of it. As time went on this got worse and worse. I could spend 20 minutes trying to get sound out of the front right speaker. The only reason I'd try so hard is because the volume level would drop by half if that speaker wasn't working.

Well, probably for about a month now the front right speaker hasn't been working at all. Well... GOOD RIDDANCE I SAY!

Old speakers on the left, new ones on the right. Well... I thought I'd be downsizing by going from 4.1 to 2.1... well they take up as much and more room in some places! They sound great and it's nice being able to control the sub from the right satellite speaker (instead of the back of the sub). In addition I can turn the sub and other bass sounds completely off or I can have some bass come through the satellites or I have have a whole world of control of the sub after that!

I don't think I need the volume turned up as high because these new ones are that good. The speakers are actually sitting behind my computer and second screen. My old speakers just couldn't move sound that well but these news one... Logitech talks about some 360 degree sound so I guess that's why I they're able to project around my computer.

Well, my old Logitech speakers lasted me about 5 years and who knows how many years before that with their previous owner... I hope these ones last as long or longer! I'm tempted to get a second set for my TV since I can hook them up to my XBOX 360 since the sound from my TV is pretty wimpy.

I guess I should tell you the model: Logitech z623. I got them on sale (save $30) and after taxes it was about $188. Expensive but still completely worth it! And Mynx approves as well!

Looks pretty awesome, and imagine that the sound must be greatly improved too. Mine are Altec Lansing 621 speakers of quite a while back. If I do buy a new desk-top computer this summer I may get Altec Lansing 5.1.

I had debating getting another 4.1 or 5.1 system but I just don't have enough room on my desk. Add that to the dream home list to go in my office! Those speakers are beastly and I bet they would sound great!

Right. I was looking at all of those extra gadgets (I presently only have the Woofer and two speakers). And they do look a bit crowded to me.

Here's my present system Altec Lansing 621 (left) compares with the 5.1 I'm thinking about (right). Think I prefer the design of the old one too.
