Song Running Through my Head: "At the Hundredth Meridian" By The Tragically Hip
So we watched this movie last night, "Amazing Grace". And it brought up two things in my brain:
First and least important, there was a preview for "The Golden Compass" at the start, and it struck me as kind of ironic that such a powerful Christian film was preluded by an Atheist's answer to Chronicles of Narnia. (Not as bad as the "Harry Potter" ads before "The Passion of the Christ" but still...)
But more importantly, it got me thinking. Here's a man who spent his life fighting injustice, basically taking on one injustice after another. One of my biggest pet peeves about my generation is apathy, the general lack of care given to anything in particular. Now I know there's lots of injustice left in the world, I could just pick one and go. On the other hand I'm an artist, basically I spend a lot of time in my own little pineapple under the sea, creating in my head. On the other other hand, I see both sides of any issue WAY too readily... I'd be like the Scottish MP in the movie. That said, when I do pick sides, I like to think of myself as an Abominable Force; Just try to disagree with me on traditional marriage, herbicide resistant canola, or which Disney Afternoon cartoon was the best.
So basically, I'm torn between two extremes: "FIGHT TO THE DEATH FOR THE CAUSE!!!" and "Please Mr World, just go 'way and let me draw..."[/b]
