If the Earth is going to end, I have no control over it except to maybe borrow a rocketship and head for anther planet.
"Scotty, beam me up!"
Mayans. Creepy. Terrific. These guys predicted shit happening now over thousands years ago. How? Alas, who knows? If they have been correct till now, shouldn't we be packing up RIGHT now?
Now, the mayan calender explained.
Their calender consisted of a 260-day religous calender, twenty 30-day months with a seperate 5 days at the end. The precise calenders were based upon careful observation of the planets, sun, and moon. For example, the Mayan atronomers calculated that a year contained 365.2420 days. Scientists now know that the Mayan year was .0002 of a day too short! Why do people take them seriously? Here is a glimpse of their predictions.
"Great Birds will come from the sky and end a great city to the north at 9/11/01."
2 airplanes(birds) struck the twin towers of NewYork(great city), on this day.
Give your opinions.
Some people say the world won't actually END, but a new cycle, a new earth will begin, like shown in the movie 2012

I feel that there is always an anticipated date for the end of the world. We have gotten through so many in the past i am sure we will survive this one (tongue in cheek). There was 86, there was that preacher last year and the "end of days" cult that is constantly doing this. Once we pass this 2012 end of the world prophecy we will just find the next one coming up and "anticipate" that one. I am not against people that believe that its going to happen, i mean its actually kind of exciting and I am looking forward to see what crazy things are going to happen on that day. (How many people will quit their jobs, etc). But we will survive and just anticipate the next "apocalypse".

So you are saying that people will all the time keep coming up with "Apocalypses" ? I agree. But there are some predictions that can't be ignored, like the 9/11 one. How can you explain the correctness of that prediction of the Mayans? I sometimes, though, feel that 21st Dec, 2012 was the date when those who "wrote" the calender either died, or they were [civilization] was wiped out or something. They STOPPED. It didn't mean the world's gonna end. eH?
