Stop copy threads from other forums!

I have notice that there is quite common that users post a topic they have found at other forums. I don't know if the rules says anything about it and it doesn't matter as long as it is a topic that we should discuss. I'm often look in the programming and other computer related categories and it's fun to help and show my skills Razz. BUT it's not fun when I find out that the post already exist on another forum and the author of the thread doesn't need any help he only wanted his points so he can continue hosting here. Evil or Very Mad Evil people!

I don't want to make the effort to explaine something if noone needs it. I'm active here that much so I don't need those points.

I have reported things like this before and I have seen threads disappear but I don't know if it was becouse he was spamming threads or becouse of me.

To find out if a thread already exist you can simply copy some part of the text(not to long) and put quotes around it and enter it to google. It's very easy. I know that people might post in many forums to get help fast but often the other thread is to old for this to be true.

I think we need some examples of threads like this so here is some of them:

Atapi or Sata can be found at
as you see I have tried to give him a clue and others too but I don't know if they don't read my post or if they don't follow the link or maybe they don't care. OR maybe they need points! But they helping him!

Basic Socket Programming Error in Linux.. Pls help can be found at
This is not very old but the author has already got his answer before it was posted here so this is a true fake post! There was no replays on his Frihost thread but I think it was becouse it was complicated problem.

approximation of pi can be found at Google cache
It the same author as with the Basic Socket... thread. This time it looks like it possible that the thread can have been written in a good way becouse it doesn't say very much if he has got the answer he wants in that thread but I think it's a only-for-points-post becouse he has done this before. (22 minutes)

I don't find any more at the moment exept one more from umeshtangnu that wrote two of those above.

The problem exist and I think it's good to think about. Think

Yes, it is sad this happens. But it is the consequence of having a points-system. There will always be people wo think they can (or need to) cheat. There is probably not much there can be done about it, except being alert, and check from time to time, like you did.

What I do is that I just ignore them and hit the report button and provide the link to where they copied+pasted them from. It's all what we can do, really. [Plus the mods trash the said topics a few hours later when they get in, so no worries.] Razz

Hmmm, I cannot agree with you 100%. For example, last week I am posting on Frihost one question about my site. Then I post in two more forum because I would like to get more opinions. In other forums I got answer in less then 24 hour and on Frihost I am waiting more then 48 hours. How I have different name in this forums then here someone can say "He is cheating"! But this is not true. We have here great comunity on Frihost but in some situation we need opinions from other fourms, too.
Of course, if someone do this every day or few time in week then we can say "He/she is cheating".

sonam: That's true. But we can see if the he already have the answer when he post the thread and then he must be a cheater. Also if the thread is very old but we have to look at it and see whats logic.

We have here great comunity on Frihost but in some situation we need opinions from other fourms, too.

I think the opinions have to come from the users and the user use other forums so it can work that way. I'm not sure what you mean by this exactly. The problem I mean is in short that some people post threads and ask questions they already have the answer on or don't care of the answer and I don't think it's fun to explaine something to someone that doesn't care.

If it is a topic that we discuss about this isn't a problem.

all i can say to this is.. GET OVER IT, not everyone uses other forums, so the will see it here for the first time, or maybe they want the opnions of the people here. As long as its not a 100% copy and paste who cares.

m-productions! please understand I'm not against copying other subject that we can dicuss about.
"What is you opinion of that or something..." I'm fine with that. but when they post things that make what they say not true. They are not having that problem. An example was a thread that is deleted now when it was a guy that had a java code that didn't worked properly. I thought it was fun to help him becouse I like Java so I opened Eclipse and added the code there. I aslo had to wait for Eclipse to start Razz And in there I debuged the code and fixed the part that was wrong. I posted the code satisfied that I have maked it work. Later I found that this topic already existed on another forum where the answer could be found.

I know I don't have to give my time on things like that but I can't resist when it's about Java. I don't know how long time that took and probably I would not have done anything better on that time anyway but it feels wrong.
