Inactive hosting accounts removed on VPS1

I got to work yesterday and removed about 500 inactive hosting accounts on VPS1. Quite a few of users who hadn't logged in for over 4 years (although with hundreds of posts).

This took quite a while, especially since cPanel interrupted a lot during the removal.

I think that the server is performing a bit better now as I haven't seen many internal server errors during the last few hours.

In any case, I'm planning to move the remaining VPS1 accounts to a new server, although I haven't decided when yet.

And great, woke up today and found all disk space occupied. Turns out a user was using all the remaining disk space (30GB). Account quota don't seem to be working for everyone on the VPS. Rolling Eyes

Guess I'll have to move all accounts a lot sooner.

Any idea how many inactive hosting accounts there are across all servers? Would be nice if people contacted you when they no longer 'wanted' their hosting.

@standready, quite a few although not that many as on VPS1. On the other servers (DirectAdmin) I have a script to remove them per 5, while on the other servers I have to do it manually for each account and double/triple-check the username which takes a lot longer.

And yes some do request it in the request an account change forum. Unfortunately there is still quite a list waiting. Rolling Eyes

By the way, it was all taken within one day. But since the account was inactive (just quite some posts so I didn't remove it initially) I simply removed it. Maybe I should have taken a look, but it caused server problems (global disk space reached) hence I removed it as fast as possible.

hi, i am a new user. I was looking for information about what is the inactivity limit before account deletion??

also, if i get a hit from someone on the website that i hosted here, then does that count as activity?
or it means i have to post on forums regularly?

thnx in advance. reply will be appriciated.

@dharmin, it is forum activity. We don't mind if nobody visits your website or even if it is empty.

You can find more information about it here: and .

Well, quite long... I am only surprised that where were so little inactive hosting accounts. I thought there will be a lot more (with less inactivity time but huge -points).

How do you check them? Manually or you already have made some script to check users for you? Surely some simple cron would help you Smile.

@Gregoric, normally I remove the accounts sooner. In any case, 500 accounts is a lot. There are now less than 100 accounts left on VPS1.

And yes I have a script to show the users. I simply change the mysql query manually in the code to display an ordered list of inactive accounts. For DirectAdmin I have a script that removes them per 5 accounts so I don't have to do it one by one and triple-check the username/domain - which makes it easy to understand why I prefer DirectAdmin. How long should it be to classify an account as inactive?
